Hong Kong

I spent a week in Hong Kong staying with Grace. It was a busy week spent meeting up with old friends. It felt a little bit odd to be back. The familiar faces had mostly all moved on, I had no lectures to go to, no books to read. Quite odd. It was, however, brilliant to catch up with a plethora of old friends. I had morning tea with Mrs Frewer; lunch with Park, Michelle, Bruce, Kath, Will and some of their other friends (whose names illude me); I went to Fiddler on the Roof with Prof and Mrs Frewer; I had late night coffee and then dinner with Dave and Omana; I met Prof Sharp; I had dinner with Grace and Dr Powell; I met Gayani and had coffee with Viraj; I met up with Jayantha; I had dinner with Michael, Wanda and Kit; I had coffee with Bernie; dinner with Carmen and spent a good deal of time with Grace herself!!!

Even with all this, I still had time to visit a few of the places that I hadn't managed to find time to visit when I was living in Hong Kong. Grace and I went on a heritage trail up in Ping Shan; I visited the cave on Cheung Chau and I found the time to wander around some of the shops and the new buildings that had appeared in Central.

I must confess it was strange being back in Hong Kong - homely yes, but home no longer. Circumstances change and time marches on. None-the-less, it was a great start to my Asian trip and I was mightily glad I had had the chance to see so many old friends.
